I came for the first time to Istanbul in April 2011. Alone, walking in the streets, getting lost to discover the city on my own and I fell in love.
Istanbul has an impact on all your senses: the beauty of the historical monuments you can see, the sounds of the seagulls and the prayer calls, the taste of the delicious turkish specialties, the smell of the warm chestnuts or various spices, the softness of silk carpets... Even the light is magical here. Your entire self can be caught by Istanbul.
I see Istanbul as a partner. It can be "love at first sight", with everything being perfect, smooth, obvious. Then, the reality comes to you: the craziness of the traffic jams, the noise, the cultural differences... Oh gosh, my lover is not perfect! To live and handle Istanbul, it seems necessary to accept its "defaults", to learn how to deal with them, to compromise, just as I would with a partner.
Here is my work about Istanbul. I'm much in love with that extraordinary city, its light, its vapurs, its people, its craziness and its energy.
